While human beings are wreaking havoc on the planet, there are a few instances now and then which show that we are actually meant to co-exist in peace with all the other creatures on this planet. Unlike us, animals have the full freedom to be who they are without the societal restrictions. We are supposed to adhere to. In this case, even though these gorillas had lived in the wild for over half a decade, they still remembered the person who had taken care of them when they were young. Shockingly enough, they were also quick to accept his wife whom they’d never seen before.
Bringing Up The Babies
John Damian Androcles Aspinall is a businessman from England who is known for his efforts in the field of wildlife conservation. He is especially well known because he helped raise many gorillas before rehabilitating them into the wild through his foundation. Two gorillas, Djalta and Ima, were personally raised by Aspinall from when they were just babies. He cared for them for over a decade before helping them settle into the wild on their own.
Damian Introduces His Wife To Gorillas
In 2017, Aspinall decided to take his wife Victoria to the Bateke Plateau National Park where many gorillas were rescued as part of his Gorilla Protection Project and had also been rehabilitated. It was also the place where Djalta and Ima had been sent to and he was eager to meet them and to introduce his wife to them. Victoria had never done anything like that before. No one knew how the gorillas would react to seeing her as they’d never met her before.
A Pleasant Surprise
At that point, Damian was also unsure whether his beloved gorilla would even recognize him. They had spent six years in the wild and he couldn’t be sure of good reception. He had spent several hours travelling down the Niari River and had even procured a drone to help track down the pair. Would it all be worth it in the end?
What happened when he met the gorillas took him by surprise! The hovering drone caught the curiosity of Djalta and Ima and they came towards it to see what was happening. Aspinall and his team took the drone back to the boat before cautiously approaching the gorillas. As soon as they saw him, the gorillas knew who he was and they came forward to greet him. Even more surprising was the way they took to Victoria.
One Of Us
Once it had been established that the gorillas were friendly to Damian, he encouraged Victoria to make her way towards them. She walked towards them slowly so that they wouldn’t think she was a threat. When she sat down next to Damian, they came forward to see who this newcomer was. Though they moved towards her quickly, they were careful and gentle in the way they treated her. There was affection in all their movements and it was clear that they appreciated her as somebody who was loved by their friend.
